My son and his bride had a December wedding in Old City, Philadelphia. Based on the location and the things they enjoy about the city, they had an "American Independence" theme, complete with a monumental wedding cake!
Making a wedding cake is always special, but it's even more so when the cake is for your child, and the first of your children to be married! My son and I planned the cake together, and he said it came out just as he wanted. Made to look like a marble monument, the cake was stamped with phrases from the Declaration of Independence (which also served as the inspiration for their wedding invitation!), and the date of the wedding in Roman numerals.
The three tiers had three flavors: lemon cake with blueberry filling, vanilla cake with strawberry, and chocolate with Boston creme.
Of course, the cake would not be complete without its Liberty Bell cake topper!
My son and daughter-in-law loved the cake, as did their guest, Benjamin Franklin.
